At least 18 people have died in the greatest city of Pakistan, Karachiin the last 16 days, presumably due to the products toxic chemicals of the factories in the area.

According to residents, a bad odor was coming from two factories in their village, causing suffocation, the Health Department said.

Department spokeswoman Mehar Khursheed said those who died suffered from fever, sore throat and shortness of breath.

Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of the province, issued a statement expressing regret over the deaths and instructing the authorities to carry out an investigation.
