New York, USA.- Due to the promotion of the prosecutors, who reduced the number of testimonies they had considered, the trial against the former Secretary of Public Security Genaro García Luna will be shortened and next Monday the Prosecutor’s Office will present its latest evidence and witnesses.

Originally, Judge Brian Cogan had foreseen that the trial would last eight weeks due to the efforts offered by the Prosecutor’s Office and the defense, however, this Wednesday the prosecutors announced that they will finish presenting their case on Monday.

The defense, headed by César de Castro, has not yet announced whether García Luna will appear or how many witnesses he will offer to speak before the jury made up of 12 US citizens.

In today’s session, the prosecutors tried to present photographs that they obtained from García Luna’s computer showing houses, cars and a fish tank, however, de Castro objected, saying that the images did not show that the goods displayed outside of your client.

The judge considered the objection admissible and only allowed the prosecutors to show the images whose assets they had accredited as belonging to the former police command, for which reason they only exhibited photos of his house in Morelos.

During the hearing, DEA agent Egbert Simon, who supervised the García Luna capture operation, testified and detailed how the arrest was made.

The trial will resume until next Monday because tomorrow a juror excused himself from attending and on Fridays there is regularly no judicial activity in the Cogan courthouse.
