Leipzig – Hollywood is filming – and nobody notices… The Monument to the Battle of the Nations is completely closed, the lines of sight are covered with huge cloths. What only looked like construction work last summer turns out to be a gigantic cinema production with a star cast!

The trailer for the US cinema hit “The Hunger Games – The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” (from November 16 in cinemas) has now appeared on the Internet. To see: “Game of Thrones” superstar Peter Dinklage (53) and actor Tom Blyth (28, “Billy the kid”) in the Hall of Fame of the Monument to the Battle of the Nations.

Film crew comprised 250 men

Germany’s largest monument (91 meters high) as the perfect backdrop for the 5th part of the dark saga about the totalitarian state of Panem. The first four parts brought in 2.7 billion euros worldwide.

Filming lasted three days last August. An eyewitness: “Everything was top secret. Nothing was allowed to leak out about the content of the scenes. But they didn’t just shoot in the Hall of Fame, they also shot in the crypt.” In addition, cameramen used drones again and again – so Leipzig’s landmarks may also be seen from the outside in the finished film.

The scenery was obviously well received: Hollywood turned up with around 250 people, trailer and catering were hidden from view by trees on the meadow behind the monument. This is where the short mega-star Dinklage was served his lunch at a table specially set up for him.

After the Völki shoot, the crew moved on to Berlin, filming on the Museum Island and in front of the Stalin buildings on Strausberger Platz. The city is to be shown in the film as a megapolis of the future, and the action is to be brought forward 64 years.

This is not the first time that Völki has been seen in a film production: “The Hunt for the Amber Room” (2012) with Bettina Zimmermann played here, among other things.
