Truck with trailer left hanging on Florida highway

An accident occurred Saturday morning on the Florida Turnpike when a tractor-trailer rolled over the side of the Beeline Highway overpass.

The curious event occurred at the mile marker 107 exit at a time when it was raining, which could have played a role, said Capt. Tom Reyes, spokesman for the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR).

Reyes revealed to NBC Miami that the vehicle, which was transporting scrap metal, lost control, partially left the overpass and remained with the cabin suspended in the air.

Palm Beach Gardens County and City Firefighters arrived on scene at 8:15 a.m. and were able to remove the driver from the truck at 9:06 a.m. He was taken to a trauma center as a precaution.

The PBCFR posted images of the hanging truck and a video of the rescue on social media.

According to the Department spokesperson, the man was awake and conscious and was speaking with the first responders the entire time. He was able to walk from the bucket of the ladder truck to a stretcher “under his own power.”

There were no other people involved.

The accident disrupted traffic on both highways for several hours.
