MADRID, 3 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The former president of the United States Donald Trump has been arrested this Thursday upon his arrival at a court in Washington in the framework of the investigation opened against him by prosecutor Jack Smith for his attempt to reverse the result of the 2020 elections.

The tycoon has traveled to the Barrett Prettyman courthouse in his vehicle from the Washington airport accompanied by several of his electoral campaign advisers: Susie Wiles, Chris LaCivita, Jason Miller and Steven Cheung. The lawyer Alina Habba was also present in the procession.

He is scheduled to appear before Magistrate Judge Moxila Upadhyaya in court, where he is expected to plead not guilty to all four counts: defrauding the United States, conspiring to obstruct an official proceeding, and attempting to obstruct the certification of ballots in the ballot box and violate the right to vote.

The first count carries a maximum sentence of five years, while the two counts of conspiracy and attempt to obstruct the certification of ballots at the polls each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years. Finally, for violating the right to vote, Trump could receive a maximum sentence of 10 years.
