Trump pleads not guilty to charges of attempting to reverse 2020 election results

WASHINGTON DC – Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty Thursday in a Washington DC court to various charges for allegedly using “illegal means” in an attempt to reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election and hold on to power.

Trump was charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official process, obstruction and attempt to obstruct an official process, and conspiracy against rights.

The former president appeared before magistrate Moxila Upadhyaya in the federal court of the District of Columbia and, as in the other two criminal charges he faces, Trump was not arrested.

The judge determined that the next hearing on this case will be on August 28.

A federal grand jury voted Tuesday to indict Trump following an extensive investigation by special counsel Jack Smith’s office into Trump’s efforts to stay in power after losing the presidential election.

The indictment alleges that Trump participated in three criminal conspiracies, all designed to keep him in the White House.

Trump, who is currently the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, has denied any wrongdoing and maintains that Smith is engaging in “election interference” by filing criminal charges against him as he seeks to return to the White House.

One of them is for intentionally withholding national Defense information.

THE OTHER PROCESSES FACING TRUMP

This will be the third time that Trump will be indicted on criminal charges, and the third time that a former president will face charges.

In New York, Trump was charged with 34 counts for allegedly paying porn actress Stormy Daniels, with whom he had an arrangement in the past, to buy her silence during the 2016 election campaign. The trial is expected to begin in March 2024. .

Trump was also charged in Florida with 40 counts of illegally removing and keeping classified documents he removed from the White House at his Mar-a-Lago mansion. Here the trial is scheduled to begin in May next year.
