The Berlin public prosecutor’s office has brought charges against an alleged wrestling manager who is said to have tried to kill his ex-partner. In the night from August 27 to August 28, 2022, the 42-year-old attacked his 40-year-old former partner twice with a knife, according to the indictment. The public prosecutor assumes dangerous bodily harm and attempted murder to cover up a crime.

Accordingly, the woman had just separated from the 42-year-old – among other things, she is said to have had doubts about his sincerity. Out of anger over the separation, the man stabbed her twice in the back with a kitchen knife in order to kill her, it is said. The woman was able to dissuade him from this first attempt.

However, he then attacked her again because he was afraid that she might report him. In this second attack, he injured her so badly that her life could only be saved by emergency surgery.

The man is said to have let go of the woman himself during the first knife attack after he had already stabbed her. At the second attempt, it was only her resistance that stopped him. The man was arrested that same night and has been in custody ever since.

The man is said to have posed as a musician and wrestling manager

According to the prosecutor, the doubts of the former partner were justified: the 42-year-old is said to have regularly claimed that he was a musician and wrestling manager. He is also said to have stated other “illustrious jobs in the entertainment industry”, as prosecutors write. The man is said to have been homeless and faked illnesses in order to be treated in hospital. He is said to have given a false name.

The man is said to have met the 40-year-old during one of these hospital stays in March 2022: it is said that she was his nursing assistant. The two are said to have later lived together in a gazebo in Wartenberg. Only a few months after they met, the woman then had doubts about him – and separated.

In Germany, statistically every hour 13 women are victims of violence by their partner or ex-partner. In November, in response to a parliamentary question, the Senate Department for Health and Equality stated that the number of female victims was expected to increase in 2022 compared to the previous year. According to police crime statistics, 31,372 women in Berlin were victims of crimes in 2021.
