Ubisoft is releasing several of its games on Steam for the first time: the titles “Far Cry 6”, “Riders Republic”, “Rainbow Six: Extraction” and “Monopoly Madness” will be released on Steam in the coming months. The open world shooter “Far Cry 6” will start on May 11th.

This is evident from Steam listings that Games magazine PCGamer.com discovered. All four games that will soon be available on Steam were previously only available on Ubisoft’s own gaming platform and the Epic Games Store. Why they are coming to Steam now of all times is not known. Ubisoft has not yet commented on this.

Ubisoft started removing its games from Steam in 2019. New titles have also not been released on Steam since then. The decision was probably about money: Steam, as the largest PC platform, has the most users, but demands comparatively high commissions of up to 30 percent – a sum that a Ubisoft manager described as “unrealistic” at the time. In the Epic Games Store, on the other hand, Ubisoft only has to cede 12 percent of the sales generated with its games. If the French publisher sells the content on its own Ubisoft Connect platform, it keeps the full amount.

However, Ubisoft did not stick to this strategy for too long. At the end of 2022, Ubisoft announced that it would soon be offering several of its titles again on Steam, including “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” and “Anno 1800”. Other games such as “The Division 2” and “Watch Dogs: Legion” followed later. With “Far Cry 6”, another top-class product from the Ubisoft catalog has now found its way to Steam.

At the beginning of the year, Ubisoft announced weak business figures, and the French games company had to lower its annual forecast from 830 million euros to 725 million euros. The company had to realign itself, said Yves Guillemot at the time. After the poor performance of “Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope” and “Just Dance 2023”, Ubisoft wants to focus more on its biggest brands and live service games in the future
