Canonical has announced the general availability of Ubuntu Pro, a subscription service designed to improve the security of Ubuntu installations. The subscription launched in beta last October and is now generally available. The main advantage of Ubuntu Pro is that you can extend support for Ubuntu releases with Long Term Support (LTS) from five to ten years.

Ubuntu Pro extends security coverage for critical, high and medium CVEs (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) to thousands of applications and toolchains including Ansible, Apache Tomcat, Apache Zookeeper, Docker, Drupal, Nagios, Node.js, phpMyAdmin, Puppet, PowerDNS, Python 2, Redis, Rust, WordPress and more.

Ubuntu Pro is available for any Ubuntu LTS 16.04 LTS or higher and costs $25 per machine per year or $500 per year for the server.

Important point for home users: users can get a free personal Ubuntu Pro subscription at ubuntu.com/pro get for up to five computers (community users even 50). A guide for Ubuntu Pro you can find here.
