Helen Holland, 81, was seriously injured on Wednesday by a motorbike escorting Prince Andrew’s wife.

An octogenarian is in a coma after being hit by the police escort who accompanied a member of the royal family in London on Wednesday.

As reported by the British media, whose BBCHelen Holland, 81, was hit in the west of the British capital, around 3:20 p.m., by a police motorcycle, which was escorting Sophie Rhys-Jones, the Duchess of Edinburgh and wife of Prince Edward, the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth.

An open investigation

The octogenarian was taken to hospital, where she is in “critical condition”, according to the London police. An investigation has been opened by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Buckingham Palace, meanwhile, said the Duchess’ “deepest thoughts and prayers are with the injured woman and her family.” A Buckingham Palace spokesperson added that the Duchess was “grateful for the rapid response from the emergency services and will keep abreast of developments.”

To the BBC, the octogenarian’s son and daughter-in-law said they were “shocked and sickened by his serious injuries”. “She is well taken care of by the NHS who we must thank deeply for their help in keeping her alive,” they added.
