Ihe life weighs heavily in Mykolaiv. Everyone seems to be carrying an invisible weight on their shoulders in this city in southern Ukraine, just a stone’s throw from Crimea. The Russian troops are only a few dozen kilometers away, at the gates of neighboring Kherson. Mykolaiv is trying to heal wounds as gaping as the hole in the regional administration building. For eight long months, the city lived under the bombs.
