Washington.
Secret documents about the war are circulating on the internet. They could cause a rift between Washington and Kiev. Who is behind this?

Over Easter the U.S. government laid a particularly inedible egg in the nest. After sensitive military and secret service documents, mainly about Russia’s war in Ukraine, appeared on the Internet, the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice in Washington are feverishly searching for the origin of the data leak.

the secret ones Documentswhich largely date from February and March of this year, deal, among other things, with the course of the front, the status of the ammunition supply, the number of Russian and Ukrainian troops and the aid deliveries from the West for a Ukrainian spring offensive – including delivery dates for the weapon systems listed in detail.

Apparently, this is already having consequences: Mykhailo Podoliak, an adviser to the Ukrainian President, told the Reuters news agency that publications did not change Ukraine’s strategy, but specific tactical plans were always subject to change.

Media: US actors could be behind the piercing

As US media from the “New York Times” to the “Wall Street Journal” unanimously report, the exact authorship of the papers and the motive of those who published them have not yet been reliably determined. However, there is increasing evidence that US actors are behind the piercing stuck, several newspapers quote government officials. With the addition: “The papers are largely genuine.”

The format of some documents is identical to reports from the high command of the US Forces and the foreign intelligence agency CIA. Former CIA investigator Daniel Hoffman, on the other hand, said it was “probable” that a Russian disinformation campaign was the cause. The Kremlin wants to create “confusion” between Washington and Kiev and between Washington and Western allies in the fight against President Vladimir Putin.

Bellingcat: Some documents were subsequently manipulated

On the other hand, US security circles point out that the around 100 so far have been gradually increased since March messaging services such as Telegram or computer game platforms such as “Discord”, some of the documents launched in the public were provided with an addendum: “only for American eyes”.

The journalistic investigative network Bellingcat found out that some documents were subsequently manipulated. So are the numbers of dead Russian and Ukrainian soldiers corrected in the war that has been going on since February 2022.

Are US secret services also spying on Zelenskyy’s closest entourage?

Because the documents suggest that the Ukrainian army is in worse shape than President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly admits, a upset between both governments. Some documents suggest that US intelligence services are spying on Zelenskyy’s closest associates.

Another document states that the Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense system (S-300 system) could collapse from the beginning of May. This would offer President Putin the chance to change the course of the war through the targeted use of fighter planes change in his favor.

Since the papers also concern countries such as Israel and South Korea, which are apparently being intensively spied on by US secret services, diplomats in Washington fear a “sensitive crisis of confidence”. One cited sensitive discussions by the Seoul government as it braced itself for mounting pressure from Washington to supply arms to Ukraine. But the Asian country does not want that.
