“Is this the life I dreamed of, the path I chose?”
Thoughtful scenes, gloomy images and haunting words – in Russian: With this video, the US secret service CIA is targeting Russian citizens.
Under the video post on YouTube, the CIA writes that they are looking for reliable people who know “the truth about Russia” and would like to share it with the secret service.
The appeal is therefore aimed specifically at employees of the military, secret service, from science or at people who are close to such employees or who otherwise get information from the economy or Russian leadership.
The protagonist in the video is intended to illustrate the motivation of a spy:
“I’m holding on. My family endures. We will live a life that is worthy. Through my actions.”
A follow-up video provides information on safe ways for interested parties to contact the CIA and instructions on how to use the dark web portal.
In addition to YouTube, the US Secret Service also posted the videos on other social media channels and on a newly established Telegram channel, another option for secure communication. Telegram is an important news source in Russia – also for opponents of the Kremlin.
According to the US news channel CNN, the secret service has recorded an historic number of informants from Russia since the beginning of the Ukraine war. The CIA intends to increase the amount of information even further with the new initiative.
