According to the UNAM statement, the maintenance scholarship program (formally known as Elisa Acuña scholarships) was not the only one that was affected for not receiving the resources that were usually received from the government.
After asking the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) to tell him what happened to the resources to cover several of the scholarships it offers (and that it told him “well there won’t be any”), The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) was able to confirm to its community that this year there will be no $$$$$ for various programs… one of them, the Elisa Acuña Maintenance Scholarship.

“EThe S243 Budget Program Elisa Acuña Scholarship Program does NOT have budget resources allocated for fiscal year 2023 (…) We find ourselves unable to respond favorably to your request”indicates the official letter that the SEP sent to the UNAM.
UNAM maintenance scholarships serve vulnerable groups
As can be seen in this year’s call, UNAM prioritizes the granting of Elisa Acuña maintenance scholarships to various vulnerable groups, especially (as now) when resources are insufficient.
The maintenance scholarship program prioritizes indigenous or Afro-Mexicans, adolescent mothers, pregnant adolescents, people with disabilities and groups considered “with greater economic need” according to the reported income and the Study of the Family Income System (SEIF)”.
One of the requirements that students must meet to access the Elisa Acuña maintenance scholarship program is come from a household whose monthly income is less than or equal to four minimum wages. The scholarship consists of the delivery of 3,600 pesos.
The UNAM maintenance scholarship process began in September of last year and theThe results were ready from October 21… however, it was only on March 23 that the SEP came out with the news that it was not going to deliver the resources.
