Tennis will have a special start to the season. While 2022 is in full countdown, this Thursday the 2023 activity was launched with the united cupa mixed team tournament that will award points for the ATP and WTA rankings, and will be held in the cities of Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, in Australia.

The contest has 18 countries, divided into six zones of three teams each. In the group phase, each team will face rivals from their area and the one that ends up as leader will face the leader of the opposite group (the winner of Group A with that of F, that of B with that of E and that of C with that of D). The three winners will be joined by the loser with the best performance from the first stage to play the Final Four, between January 6 and 7. Meanwhile, the final will be on Sunday the 8th, in Sydney.

The Argentine team, which is part of Group F along with France and Croatia, is made up of: Francisco Cerúndolo (30th), Federico Coria (75th) and Tomás Etcheverry (79th), among the men, and Lourdes Carlé (147th), Paula Ormaechea (168th) and Nadia Podoroska (195th) for the female branch, while Gisela Dulko is the captain.

For their part, some of the great figures that will animate the tournament are the Spanish Rafael Nadal (2nd), the Norwegian Casper Ruud (3rd), the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (4th) and the Polish Iga Swiatek (1st).

The agenda of the Argentines

Argentina debuted this Thursday with two defeats. In the first turn (at 7.00 in our country) Carlé fell to Alize Cornet (36th) 6-2, 6-1. And then, Cerúndolo could not beat Arthur Rinderknech (44th), who won 6-4, 6-2.

This Friday, at the same time, Podoroska will face Caroline Garcia (4th) and Coria will do the same against Adrian Mannarino (46th), in a series that will be completed with the mixed doubles, with formations to be confirmed.

The match against Croatia will begin on Saturday the 31st, with the matches between Carlé against Donna Vekic (67th), and Cerúndolo against Borna Coric (26th).
