Changing the iPhone battery will soon be significantly more expensive for the manufacturer: on March 1, 2023, the “fee for battery service out of warranty for all iPhone models before the iPhone 14 will increase by 24 euros,” as Apple said in the small print on the iPhone on Monday -Repair page noted. For iPhones without a home button – iPhone X, XR, XS, 11, 12 and 13 – the price for installing a new original battery will increase from the current 75 euros to then 99 euros. If the customer sends the iPhone to Apple to have the battery replaced, there are additional shipping costs of around 12 euros.

The price of changing the battery for older models with a home button, such as the iPhone 7, 6s and the current third-generation iPhone SE, increases by more than 40 percent. Instead of 55 euros, replacing the battery will cost 79 euros from March. The prices usually apply both when changing directly through Apple in an Apple Store and at the dealers authorized by the manufacturer. It does not appear to be a special adjustment to the euro exchange rate: in other countries the price of a new iPhone battery is also increasing, in the USA Apple is adding 20 US dollars.

The latest iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models are excluded from the price increase, but replacing the battery outside of the manufacturer’s one-year warranty is more expensive anyway, Apple estimates 119 euros for this.

Apple had already temporarily increased the price for iPhone battery replacements in early 2022, but this appears to have been an error on the website that was only corrected several weeks later. In retail, prices remained unchanged. Independent workshops often offer iPhone battery replacement cheaper, but original batteries are not necessarily used there.

In the meantime, DIY iPhone users in Germany also have the option of replacing the battery themselves using original parts and in accordance with Apple repair instructions. However, Apple currently only offers a replacement battery for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series. The “Battery Bundle”, which also includes screws and display adhesive tape, costs a good 50 euros if you send in your old battery after it has been replaced. Tool is not included.
