“WAs I have made clear to the heads of companies at the forefront of American AI innovation, the private sector has an ethical, moral and legal duty to ensure the safety of its products,” he said in a statement.
The vice president, who met today at the White House with the heads of Google, Microsoft, OpenAi and Anthropic, said AI has “the potential to improve people’s lives and address some of the biggest challenges” in society.
But he stressed that, at the same time, “AI has the potential to dramatically increase security and safety risks, reduce civil rights and privacy, and undermine public trust and faith in democracy.”
The vice president said she supports “potential new regulations” and “new legislation”.
