Caracas, April 10. Workers and volunteers from Venezuela collected some 32.07 tons of solid waste, much of it from the ground, in parks, beaches, rivers, natural monuments and zoos during Holy Week, the Ministry of Ecosocialism (Environment) reported on Monday.

The State portfolio indicated, in a press release, that the sanitation days were carried out in Caracas and the 23 states by an “ecosocialist management team” made up of 2,935 brigade members “against climate change”, 1,081 volunteers, 104 members of social movements, 89 of “ecosocialist” movements and 2,948 of other organizations, among others.

This team, the letter continues, was deployed in 145 tourist places, including 35 national parks, 41 recreational parks, 12 natural monuments, 35 rivers, 19 beaches and three zoos, all with high attendance during the holidays.

In addition, 479,826 citizens participated in 624 meetings on “environmental awareness”, 727 “eco-bottle” preparation courses, 318 community and 901 ecological activities, in addition to other cultural, sports and recreational activities, the ministry said.

On April 5, the Government reported the activation of the plan “Give the tail to (take away) your garbage” to make citizens aware of collecting other waste in addition to what they themselves generate.

During Holy Week last year, 68,754 kilos of solid waste were collected in 139 operations, the Executive reported then. EFE
