MIAMI.- The Venezuelan brand Ron Calazan makes history in San Francisco World Spirits Competition by obtaining the platinum medal for its Reserva and Aejo rums, reserved for those drinks that receive a Double Gold Medal for three consecutive years, awards that they will obtain again in 2024.

This year the contest, recognized as one of the longest-running and most influential in alcoholic beverages, with more than two decades of experience, had the largest number of participants in its history: more than 5,500 candidates in hundreds of categories, of which 280 were rums.

The demanding evaluation process of San Francisco is divided into stages that include the individual review of each distillate and its deliberation, all preceded by a blind tasting, without having any type of information about the product or its price. This has led to the jury of this competition, made up of experts from various areas of the industry, being recognized as one of the most impartial that exists, due to the strict requirements of its decision protocol.

On this occasion, the brand was recognized with its product Calazan Aejo, which obtained its double gold medal, with 97 points, and a platinum medal. It is a rum with soft aromas of dried fruits, plum and honey, combined with fine wood notes; all surrounded by mixtures of light and semi-heavy alcohols, aged in American white oak barrels for four years.

With 95 points, the other double Gold Medal and Platinum Medal winner was Calazan Reserva, and, like the previous one, it is aged in American oak barrels, only for longer: 10 years. It is characterized by having sweet notes of caramel, toasted wood, red fruits and chocolate.

Calazan Aejo was chosen by the 70 judges as one of the best expressions in its category, which means that the Venezuelan brand will be one of the guests at the Top Shelf 2024 awards gala, which will take place in San Francisco. on October 5th and 6th.

This is an event that brings together the most trusted authorities in the beverage industry and in which rum Venezuelan be exalted, thanks to the presence of this national brand.

Both rums, along with the aged Double Cask, Reserva Exclusiva, Premium, Special and Special Blanco, make up the catalog of Ron Calazan, a family business that follows the legacy of one of the pioneers in rum distillation in eastern Venezuela: Rodolfo Esteban Gil, known as Calazan.

The company was registered in 2014 as Alcoholes y Aejos Monagas, with a plant that has capacity for 43,000 barrels of American white oak, and produces rums in its different categories: standard, premium, super premium and ultra premium.
