Video games continue to win over new fans in France, according to the Global Video study conducted by Médiamétrie at the end of last year. Indeed, 28% of the French population, or 17 million people, play video games daily. The results of this study and the implications for players in the video game market were presented very recently.

An average age of 35 for French players

Video games are increasingly popular in France, according to the Global Video study conducted by Médiamétrie. Between October and December 2022, 28% of the French population, i.e. 17 million people, played video games daily on TV or digital screens. Men make up 57% of gamers, while women make up 43%. Players are on average 35 years old, but older players are also numerous, accounting for 25% of daily players. Digital screens particularly attract players a little older than average.

Furthermore, the study revealed that gamers are also consumers of video content. In fact, 92% of gamers watch at least one video content every day, whether it’s TV programs, internet videos or VoD/SVoD content. Some platforms, such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, have understood this link and offered video games with their subscription. In addition, the world of video games also inspires the scenarios for series broadcast on these platforms, such as The Witcher on Netflix or The Last of Us on Amazon Prime Video. Julien Rosanvallon, Deputy Managing Director of Médiamétrie, said:

“At the heart of new digital uses and trends, the Global Video study makes it possible to follow the constant development of the video game market as closely as possible, in order to provide Médiamétrie’s clients with all the data necessary to manage their editorial and commercial. »

Video games are clearly a complementary practice to video content, and the platforms that can integrate them effectively will be able to continue to prosper in an increasingly competitive market.
