DIn the Kherson region of southern Ukraine, the Ukrainian army said it inflicted heavy casualties on Russian troops with an artillery strike. Near the village of Shulakivka, enemy troops and military equipment were reportedly hit, the Ukrainian General Staff reported.

“The enemy’s losses amount to 500 dead and wounded,” it says. The attack reportedly took place on New Year’s Eve. However, the information has not yet been independently verified.

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, Russian units in the village of Fedorivka were also hit a day later. The number of victims has not been revealed. Fedorivka and Shulakivka are both on the southeast bank of the Dnieper River, in the Russian-occupied part of Kherson.

Just Monday, the Ukrainian army announced that dozens of Russian soldiers had been killed in a rocket attack on Makiivka, a town in eastern Ukraine controlled by the Russian army. According to kyiv, some four hundred Russian soldiers were killed, with the Russian Defense Ministry reporting 63 dead.
