The danger warnings are in a queue before the storm “Otto” is expected to hit southern Norway on Friday afternoon with full force.

The strong weather is predicted to be one of the windiest days of the year.

Meteorologist on duty in StormGeo Olav Erikstad tells TV 2 that the severe weather will take a somewhat special route.

– You could say it’s an urban low pressure. There is a powerful storm center in the sea west of Shetland or Scotland now, which will hit the center of Bergen on Friday afternoon, before moving further over the mountains and hitting both Oslo and Stockholm directly.

– There will be quite a lot of weather

The storm will bring a strong wind of 25 meters per second on average. It is precisely this wind that gives the storm its name.

But it is not in the cities where the storm will hit right that the weather will be worst, we believe Erikstad.

– It is usually a little calmer in the eye of the storm. But it is probably otherwise in Western Norway and Southern Norway that it will be fiercest. It will be quite intense weather as far south as Hvalerøyene.

– But there will be quite a lot of weather in the eye of the storm and so on, says Erikstad.

– Not a bad day to go

On the other side of the mountain, the storm will be perceived somewhat differently than it will be in Western Norway.

Here there will be an offshore wind, which means that the wind will have a more gusty feel to it.

– Even if only a gale has been reported in your area, there can be quite strong gusts, says Erikstad.

If you are going on winter holiday on Friday after work, it may be a good idea to travel at a different time than the afternoon and evening.

– I think that Friday is not a very smart day to travel if you are going to some of the mountains that lie south of Finse.

The severe weather is expected to subside in just a few hours because the storm is moving very quickly. But when the storm will subside depends on where in the country you are. Eriksen says that the worst wind will subside by Friday evening and Saturday night.

– If you are going to the mountains north of Finse, for example Trysil, it will be a bit of a chore. On Friday it will be very windy, but on Saturday there will be a lot of snow.

– The driving conditions are not optimal, concludes the meteorologist
