Waze is testing a new feature to warn drivers who drive on roads considered dangerous. These high-risk roads are those with an “accident history”.

The famous traffic and navigation application could soon be equipped with a new and unprecedented feature. Community based, Waze recover real-time information on users and traffic conditions to always offer optimized routes. Waze notifies you in real time if an accident has occurred on the road, but the application could also warn you soon if an accident is likely to happen. Moreover, the English police report ghost patrols on Waze to slow down cars.

Waze is currently testing a new feature in beta that would warn drivers who drive on roads deemed to be dangerous. As the Israeli tech news site Geektime reported, this feature wants to report the roads where many accidents have happened. Drivers could thus be extra vigilant on these high-risk roads.

Waze shows dangerous roads in red and warns drivers with a notification

With this feature, Waze, which is now integrated without a smartphone on board the Renault Austral and Mégane E-Tech, displays dangerous roads in red on the map. In addition to seeing colored roads, the driver also receives a notification that warns him of dangerous roads around him. These roads are considered unsafe when they have an “accident history”, i.e. they have statistically high accident occurrences in the community database.

Not all Waze users have access to this beta at this time. Those who received it had the following message: using driver reports and your route, you can see alerts for accident history on certain roads “. The objective is obviously not to create anxiety among drivers. Rather, it is encourage them to be extra vigilant on the road. This is probably the reason why Waze sends a single notification to the driver to warn him.

Finally, Waze did not specify when this feature will be available to the general public. It shouldn’t take too long, however. You can also disable the feature at any time if you don’t want to see roads in red on the navigation app.
