Those led by Diego sought from the start of the duel to take possession of the ball, but beyond this they failed to get close to the goal guarded by Fabrice Ondoa. In the complement, things did not change between both squads, Cameroon stepped on the Mexican area with greater danger. At minute 60, Ángel Malagón came out to cut a scepter, however, the keeper slipped away and left him alive, a situation that Karl Toko Ekambi did not miss out on and made it 2-1.

After the second goal received, the Mexicans tried to equalize and found the long-awaited goal at 90+5, when Henry Martín served a leaked ball to Kevin Álvarez, who crossed his right-footed shot and beat goalkeeper Ondoa.
