'We demand an end to the siege in Gaza': Palestinian activist

“I’m alive, but I’m not safe. “We have no water, we have almost no food, they have cut off the electricity, there is no safe place I can go and I am waiting to die.”

Omar Khoury tells what his friend, Bayan Ramadan, told him from Gaza City on Wednesday. He hadn’t contacted her for a week.

“They have to use car batteries to charge their cell phones,” added Khoury, activist, Palestinian Youth Movement in California.

Almost a month after the start of the war against the Hamas terrorist group, more than 9,000 Palestinians have died due to Israel’s bombing of the Gaza Strip. This after the attack by Hamas on October 7 in southern Israel where more than 1,400 Israelis died.

“They want to kill us all or take away all our homes, houses and buildings in Gaza,” Khoury said.

Since Tuesday, 800 people including hundreds of Palestinians with foreign passports have left the Gaza Strip for Egypt. This thanks to an agreement between the United States, Egypt, Israel and Qatar.

“What we Palestinians need is not to go to Egypt, what we need is to be able to live in our homes and not be under Israeli bombs,” Khoury added.

Since the war began, thousands of activists in the United States have protested alongside the Palestinian youth movement against the bombings in the Gaza Strip.

“We demand an end to the siege in Gaza and an end to the US government’s military support for the Zionist state of Israel,” Khoury said.

Activists in New York say that in addition to raising awareness, they would like to send aid to the Palestinians but…

“There is no way to send anything to Gaza now because of the Israeli military blockade they have had for the last 16 years,” said activist Munir Atalla, the movement’s representative in New York.

For his part, Khoury just hopes more people will join…

“Let them go to the streets, let them talk to their families with anyone to say that we demand a ceasefire, an end to the war against the Palestinians and that the Palestinians have the right to return to their town and live.”
