According to civil protection, 14 rivers have burst their banks in Emilia-Romagna alone. The emergency services were used, among other things, with helicopters to rescue people. Mountain rescuers and the coast guard also participated.

The municipality called on citizens to only take the car in urgent cases.

Within a few hours, as much precipitation had fallen in the affected areas as usual in months. Meteorologists warned of another ten days of unsettled weather. On Thursday, a hurricane from North Africa will hit the central Adriatic and bring severe storms again.

Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini therefore called for the cancellation of the Formula 1 race planned for the weekend in Imola. These days, all forces should be used to fight the storms and flooding, said Salvini from the right-wing populist Lega.
