It is well known that Mexico is a country that produces and works oil as a raw material, however, its productive capacity has decreased significantly in the last two decades, as well as competition from gas stations.

In order to reverse this situation, the Mexican government implemented an Energy Reform in 2013 that sought to stimulate oil production through foreign investment and free fuel prices to create a competitive market for consumers nationwide.

On November 30, 2017, the liberalization of gasoline and diesel prices in Mexico entered into force. As of this date, national and foreign private companies had the opportunity to import gasoline of different brands and types to the Mexican market, which put an end to the monopoly that Petróleos Mexicanos had until then.
