WhatsApp will finally mute calls from strangers if you want it to. In tests in the Beta version of the messenger for Android, the option “Silence calls from strangers” will allow you to mute the sound and vibration of calls from numbers that are not saved in the phonebook.

The function was found in WhatsApp Beta build 2.23.10.7 within the section Settings > Privacy. “Calls from unknown numbers will be silenced. They will still be displayed in your call and notification list”, explains the messenger.

If activated, the app does not make the cell phone ring when it receives a call from an unknown source. It will be displayed as a notification on the device’s screen, so the user can answer it if they want.

The new privacy option will be of great help to users who suffer from spam or recurring calls from annoying people. With the feature, the person can leave the call notice enabled, but get rid of the annoyance of receiving calls from strangers all the time.

In testing on WhatsApp Beta

For now, the function is being tested in WhatsApp Beta and there is no release date. If you’re a tester, it’s worth taking a look at Play Store to download pending updates and experience what’s new.
