WhatsApp is working on a feature that can convert audio messages to text. This is quite handy when you receive an audio message, but cannot listen to it for various reasons.

After adding voice statuses that allow you to share 24-hour ephemeral messages to your contacts, WhatsApp is working on a new feature. Meta’s instant messaging application has planned to convert audio messages to text. This feature is not yet rolling out to all users, but it was spotted in the latest beta.

WhatsApp will be able to convert audio messages to text in multiple languages

This is not the first time that we have heard of a whatsapp feature to transcribe audio to text. However, this is the first time that we have so much information. WABetaInfo has shared a screenshot of this feature discovered in the beta of the messaging app. Moreover, it will soon allow you to send photos in their original quality.

As you can see in the screenshot, WhatsApp gives reasons why audio transcription is not available. He explains that either the words are not recognized or the transcription is not configured in the same language as the audio message. The application also offers change the language of the transcript. This screenshot therefore confirms two things. The first is that the feature is well under development. The second is that the feature is compatible with multiple languages.

You should also know that this audio to text conversion feature was spotted in a beta of the iOS application. So we don’t know if the Android version will also benefit. In any case, as WABetaInfo explained, “ these transcriptions are always made locally on the device by downloading the relevant language packs and are never shared with WhatsApp or Apple “.
