The Golden Globe Awards ceremony took place last night. Although the renowned prices of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association as an important mood test for the soon to follow oscars, but productions for television and streaming platforms are also recognized as part of the gala. And that’s how it happened House of the Dragon that managed what the main series game of Thrones was denied at its time: Directly with the first season Golden Globe win as the best series. Better Call Saul, The Crown, Ozark and Serverance, on the other hand, got nothing. This is a bad joke!

Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon is best drama series – wrongly!

Normally, the latently outraged author of these lines follows award ceremonies like that oscars or even those Golden Globes, with mild interest. If one of your personal favorites wins, you’re happy. If, on the other hand, it comes up empty-handed, you shrug your shoulders. And if a Will Smith lets himself be carried away by letting the alpha animal and the big guy hang out, then videos will start appearing youtube looked at and followed discussions about it. Apart from that, neither tearful acceptance speeches nor flash-light-demanding evening wear affect me.

In the case of Golden Globes 2023 however, things look a little different. When it became known that House of the Dragon won the award for the Best Drama Series was awarded, hot steam whistled out of my ears left and right. This isn’t about belittling the performance of the cast or implying a lack of passion from the team behind the series. After all House of the Dragon is objectively anything but a worthy award winner Best Drama Series.

Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon – full of crafting errors

It was clear that it was House of the Dragon spin-off series would have a hard time. You almost inevitably compare storylines, scenes, characters, even the music, with the big role model. But in my opinion, the series was able to step out of the huge footsteps of Game of Thrones by the third episode at the latest. However, no sooner had you gotten used to the actors and taken their characters to heart or learned to hate them abysmal than the makers execute you Timeskipwhich is so absurdly amateurish that one still shudders with embarrassment.

In the middle of the first season, the plot jumps without any advance warning suddenly a few years forward. To make this clear, the producers switch some of the main cast. In the case of children, this is completely understandable. But when an actress assigned to play the older version of a character (Alicent Hohenturm) looks just as young as her predecessor, it inevitably leads to an annoying break in immersion. That tragic remember: Both the old (young) and the new (older) actors do their job excellently.

But if, despite the leap in time, other actors are simply left in their roles (Ser Kriston Kraut) and not even bothered, theirs hairstyle to change it or even just let the beard grow a little longer, then one wonders what those responsible were thinking. Tastes differ, so it’s easy to argue about whether Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon is a great series or rather a disappointing failure. Away from everyone subjectivity However, it remains to be said that there has rarely been a highly budgeted series whose plot was so completely thwarted due to technical and staging mistakes. And such a poor performance shouldn’t come with a prestigious award like the Golden Globe be awarded.
