Fourteen years have passed since Karen made her first appearance on the show and she has slowly but surely warmed the hearts of many viewers.
However, his fate hung in the balance when BBC One’s daytime drama ended in 2022 with shocking pre-Christmas suspense.
The surgery receptionist has suddenly collapsed following a heated confrontation with freshly sacked GP trainee Princess Buchanan.
Karen lay unconscious behind the reception desk until an unexpected visitor in the form of Luca McIntyre returned from her travels and helped her.
Karen has since been left at home recovering and with the discharge of longtime receptionist Valerie Pitman, the surgery has been short-staffed.
This left room for a new receptionist to find her mark.
Kirsty Millar, played by Kiruna Stamell, made her Doctors debut during today’s (Wednesday, Jan. 11) installment of the program.
And while it looks like Kirsty is here to stay, should viewers expect Karen to throw in the towel?
In recent scenes, Karen has been seen getting better and better as she recovers from her heart attack.
She even got to give Princess some home truths from her hospital bed before the latter left completely.
Karen was then allowed to go home where an agitated Rob took care of her.
And it doesn’t look like Karen is ready to give up her job just yet.
This week, when Zara (played by Elisabeth Dermot Walsh) is seriously thinking about her life, she visits Karen.
Although the couple have not always been on good terms, their meeting goes well and Karen takes the opportunity to open up.
She confesses to Zara that she was scared by her heart attack but then reassures her that she is on the mend.
Karen then promises that she will get back to work soon.
But when can viewers expect his return to The Mill?
And will Zara really decide to leave as she struggles to balance her career with her personal life?
