A new Twitter trend allows you to see the value in euros of your account. A fun (and completely unfounded) practice but one that mostly scoops up a lot of user data.

Each season has its new trend on Twitter. Discover his “Twitter family”, his “Twitter circle”, his “Twitter soul mate” and now… know how much his Twitter account is worth in euros. A trend that can be amusing (for a few micro-seconds) but which can above all be dangerous in the long term, as dozens of accesses for unknown sites are accepted.

This new trend “My Twitter is worth” makes it possible to discover, without any rational explanation on the calculation made, the value in euros of his Twitter account. If for some known users, the amount can quickly reach peaks, for most Internet users, the value displayed is only a few hundred euros.

Tweet, block or follow for you

And to find out this amount, you have to connect your Twitter account to a third-party application, here “Any Place Here”. A simple click allows you to connect, but a box still offers to know what the application will be able to do with your account once the authorization has been accepted.

With this access, the “Any Place Here” application (whose developers are unknown) indicates for example that it will be able to see the tweets of your news feed, subscribe to accounts in your place, tweet and delete tweets for you but also hide, block and report accounts without you realizing it.

A gold mine, in short. And a real danger for the personal data of users. Because these external applications continue to multiply or be renamed after each alert concerning the risk of malicious processes.

To backtrack and avoid any data problems, it is therefore necessary to go to the settings of the Twitter application, on the web or mobile version, in order to revoke access to these third-party sites.

To do this, simply follow these different steps:

1) Go to “Settings and privacy” Then “Security and account access”

2) Click on “Applications et sessions” Then “Connected Apps”

3) You discover all the applications that have access to your account

4) Click on the relevant application then on “Revoke app permissions”
