DSince February 24, 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been pounding on every door in the West. On February 28, he officially requested his country’s accession to the European Union and on September 30, following Vladimir Putin’s formalization of the annexation by Russia of four Ukrainian regions, he announced the request for accelerated accession of Ukraine to NATO.

At the continental level, on June 23, 2022, the European Council granted Ukraine the status of candidate to the Union. A strong symbolic gesture, followed by a battery of aid measures in kyiv, but with which Zelensky cannot be satisfied sine die. “Ukraine deserves to start negotiations on its membership this year,” he declared on Thursday at the opening of the Ukraine-EU summit in kyiv.
