Almost nine years ago “Why didn’t you say no” was published. The duet by Roland Kaiser and Maite Kelly is cult in the hit scene. But there won’t be one again.

Singer Roland Kaiser rules out working together again for a song with his colleague Maite Kelly. The 70-year-old explains this in the current episode of Barbara Schöneberger’s podcast “With a woman’s waffles”.

Barbara Schöneberger reads real and invented headlines about him to Roland Kaiser in this format. He has to guess which ones actually existed and which ones didn’t. In this context, the presenter also presents her guest with this headline: “Maite Kelly: Separation confirmed – Roland Kaiser finally breaks his silence.”

“Can’t repeat a success of this quality”

Kaiser says the headline certainly did exist in tabloids, since the media has repeatedly accused him and Kelly of having an affair. In the same breath he makes it clear: “In the future I will not sing a duet with her anymore, because you can’t repeat a success of this quality.” He proudly says that the single has just gone five times gold. “That’s crazy. I can’t repeat that. So I’ll do the hell and sing a song with her again.”

Kaiser also thinks about Maite Kelly: “She has so much success, the woman. I begrudge her that, but she likes to go her own way. She doesn’t need me for that.”

Kaiser and Kelly had recorded the song “Why Didn’t You Say No” together, released in September 2014. Since then they have been on stage as a duo in hit TV shows to present the song in front of an audience. The single received gold status in 2016, and then in 2022, with over 750,000 sales, it was awarded the fivefold gold record. There was also a double platinum award for the hit duo. A successful cooperation that, according to Kaiser, can hardly be repeated.
