No more Internet Explorer on Windows 10! Microsoft has rolled out an update to Edge that will automatically direct you to the browser when you try to open Internet Explorer. The shortcuts will be removed next June via a Windows update.

Internet Explorer

The announced death of Internet Explorer is a real chestnut that regularly appears in the specialized press. This time around, the browser takes its bow from Windows 10, a system that still plagues a large number of users. However, this comes as no surprise. Last December, Microsoft announced that Internet Explorer would be permanently disabled from certain versions of the OS via an update to Microsoft Edge available since February 14, 2023.

Windows 10: when will Internet Explorer disappear?

Thing promised, thing due. However, Microsoft specifies that this update will be deployed over a period of a few days to a week, as is the case for other updates to its Chromium-based browser. Once it is installed on your computer, you will no longer be able to launch Internet Explorer. Whenever you attempt to open the outdated browser somehow, you will be redirected to Microsoft Edge.

Note that the Internet Explorer Start menu and taskbar icons will not remain ad vitam æternam. Microsoft plans to clean house by removing them through the June 2023 Windows Security Update (“B” version) scheduled for June 13, 2023. Still, some users still need to use Internet Explorer to access content that does not load on other browsers.

Fortunately, Microsoft Edge has an IE mode. This one lets you browse older websites, which should fix your problem. Microsoft finally warns diehards who want to snub the Edge update to keep access to Internet Explorer: “Security updates and maintenance updates are only available on the latest versions of the stable and beta channels. If you’re using older versions of Microsoft Edge, chances are you’ll miss the latest quality and security updates.”
