We find ourselves less and less in the Windows 11 widget menu. The “board” (Windows key + W), which was brought to the fore as a useful function when the operating system was started, was not entirely convincing. Despite appropriate options for personalizing the news content, content about Z-celebrities, gossip and gossip still finds its way into our technically and scientifically designed tiles.
The Windows 11 widgets: A good idea, but not thought through to the end (yet).
In addition, without additional settings or third-party apps, all content is opened in Microsoft’s Edge browser instead of the desired standard browser and the integration of the Outlook calendar does not always work reliably. Instead of deciding on many steps of optimization, we choose a single way – uninstallation.
This works comparatively easily via the Windows terminal and the PowerShell or command prompt it contains and can be undone at any time if necessary. So, should Microsoft significantly improve its widgets, we can go back with just as simple steps.
Uninstall: This is how you remove the Windows 11 widgets
- Open the Start Menu or Windows Search (Windows Key + S)
- Enter the term “terminal” or “PowerShell” into the search
- Open the respective app with the addition “Run as administrator”
- Sluggish winget uninstall –id 9MSSGKG348SP into the command line
- (Alternative) Carry Get-AppxPackage *WebExperience* | Remove-AppxPackage into the command line
- (Optional) Confirm any dialog with “Y”
Now the widgets are automatically uninstalled and removed from the taskbar and settings. A restart of the system is not required. Have you changed your mind? No problem. The widgets can be reinstalled just as easily.
Install: So you get the Windows 11 widgets back
- Open the Start Menu or Windows Search (Windows Key + S)
- Enter the term “terminal” or “PowerShell” into the search
- Open the respective app with the addition “Run as administrator”
- Sluggish winget install –id 9MSSGKG348SP into the command line
- (Optional) Confirm any dialog with “Y”
The widgets are restored quickly and without a restart. As an alternative to uninstalling, the news tiles can be hidden in the settings (Personalization -> Taskbar) so that you can still access them using the “Windows key + W” combination.
