Mild temperatures disrupt winter sports in the Thuringian Forest. Tourists and athletes are advised to reschedule.

The conditions on the cross-country ski trails and ski hiking trails in the Thuringian Forest are currently “rather bad” due to the mild temperatures. As the Thuringian Forest regional association announced on Friday, athletes would have to reckon with contamination from needles, stones in the cross-country ski run and also interruptions. A new preparation is currently not possible.

Alternatives are recommended

According to the association, eight lifts are currently open, including in Oberhof, Masserberg and Steinach. For Oberhof, however, the regional association warned of major restrictions in the winter sports area until the end of the Biathlon World Cup. “We recommend all active winter sports enthusiasts and tourists who do not want to go to the events to visit the alternative winter sports areas in the Thuringian Forest.” The World Cup ends on Sunday.
