With salary increase they want to attract more lifeguards

The Parks Department has once again increased lifeguard salaries.

This action comes after the city reached an agreement with the city’s largest municipal employee union, DC-37. The base salary will increase from $21 to $22 an hour.

A $1,000 bonus will also be offered to lifeguards who agree to return and work again during the busy season.

Lifeguard qualification exams will run through the end of February, and are currently underway at more than 15 city pools, recreation centers and local schools.

Becoming a lifeguard will allow you to learn CPR, first aid and rescue techniques by providing safety at the city’s eight public beaches and 53 outdoor pools.
