THEY LISTEN?

What do people who are deaf from birth hear when they think?

A. People who have been deaf since birth do not hear sounds in the same way as hearing people. However, they can still think and have a rich inner life, including their own thoughts and ideas. Some people deaf from birth may have developed a concept of sound through exposure to other sources, such as feeling vibrations or seeing lip movement when others are speaking.

Others may have no concept of sound at all. It is important to recognize that deafness does not diminish a person’s ability to think, feel, or communicate.

Deaf people have their own unique experiences and ways of understanding the world. They may use sign language or other modes of communication such as written language or visual communication to express their thoughts and ideas.

CONCENTRATION vs. EXTERMINATION

In the history of World War II and other more recent conflicts, concentration camps are often mentioned, but extermination camps are also included indiscriminately. Is there a difference other than the obvious one?

A. Coincidentally to your question, a month ago I had the opportunity to see one of these concentration camps in Poland, visit the prison, the facilities and learn more about this terrible history of crimes against humanity.

I share with you, concentration camps and extermination camps were both types of camps established by the Nazi regime in Germany during World War II. However, they served different purposes and had different characteristics.

Concentration camps were camps where people were forcibly detained, usually because of their ethnicity, religion, political beliefs, or sexual orientation. Concentration camps were used to detain and imprison large groups of people, including Jews, Roma, homosexuals, political prisoners, and others deemed undesirable by the Nazi regime. Conditions in concentration camps were often harsh, and prisoners were subjected to forced labor, malnutrition, disease, and other forms of abuse.

Death camps, on the other hand, were specifically designed and built for the purpose of systematically killing large numbers of people, Jews in particular. These camps were also known as death camps. They were equipped with gas chambers, which were used to kill prisoners in large numbers, as well as crematoria to dispose of the bodies. The most infamous death camps were Auschwitz-Birkenau, Treblinka, Belzec, Sobibor, and Chelmno.

In short, concentration camps were used to imprison and abuse large groups of people, while death camps were used to kill large numbers of people, mainly Jews, in a systematic and industrialized way.
