Firaxis and 2K have revealed that work is underway on a new entry in the Civilization series. Admittedly, the developer did not share any details about the game, so whether it is Civilization VII or some sort of spin-off is currently unclear.

The news was revealed in connection with the announcement that Firaxis has a new boss. After more than 25 years, Steve Martin has decided to step down from the top job, and industry veteran Heather Hazen is coming in as a replacement.

– I am very excited to have the opportunity to continue the legacy of the studio, and it begins with the announcement that Firaxis has begun development of the next entry in the legendary Civilization series. I am fortunate enough to work with some of the industry’s best developers, and we have plans to take the Civilization series to exciting new heights for the many millions of players we have worldwide, Hazen said in a press release.

And those aren’t the only changes at Firaxis. The developer reports that Jake Solomon is also leaving his post after 23 years. Solomon helmed the XCOM series and the recently launched Marvel’s Midnight Suns, but now wants to try something different.

– I loved designing tactical turn-based games, but the time has come to let other, smarter people drive that genre forward. My heart is burning for a new dream. Time to chase it, Solomon signed Twitter.
