Mexico City.- The coordinator of the deputies of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, Ignacio Mier, reported that the constitutional reform that reduces the working day to 40 hours per week will be addressed in the next regular session, which will begin on the first day of September.

Mier accused the opposition of not having reached the necessary agreements to process the constitutional modifications during the period that ended on April 30.

The Morenista said that the PAN, PRI and PRD benches did not want to carry out constitutional reforms because, in the middle, was the reform that limited the powers of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF).

“We did not manage to have enough votes because the PRI, the PAN and the PRD did not want constitutional reforms, because the reform that guarantees the presence, at least 10 percent, of affirmative actions was also there in the middle,” he said.

However, the reform to the TEPJF agreed by Mier with the opposition fell after the rebellion of legislators who support Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard and the head of government. Claudia Sheinbaum, in her presidential aspirations, prevented the modifications from being discussed in commissions.

Mier announced that the PRI bench has already promised to vote in favor of the reform that reduces the working day from 48 to 40 hours and establishes that there will be two days off instead of one.

The parliamentary coordinator stressed that, unlike the Senate, where they have not been able to remove an INAI commissioner, in the Chamber of Deputies they managed to remove practically all pending issues without problems.

“In the Chamber we managed to remove practically everything, without problems, without taking the Tribune, with the respect and civility that politics deserves. (In contrast to the Senate, where) they have not been able to remove a commissioner, we removed all the advisers , the governor of the Bank of Mexico, the head of the Energy Regulatory Commission, we removed by qualified majority, on the last day, all the heads of the internal audit of the autonomous bodies,” he said.

The Morenista coordinator considered that among the most important legislative advances is the reform of the Fovissste Law.

With it, he said, an end to years of abuses in housing loans for state workers; However, the reform was approved with the call of Morena deputies to vote against, considering that it implements a delegated collection scheme.

Ignacio Mier added that another important reform is the one that doubles paid vacation days for workers in their first year of service and accused Movimiento Ciudadano of being opportunistic, for having claimed responsibility for this modification to the Federal Labor Law.

“This is an achievement for us, we made the vacations worthy with the support of Movimiento Ciudadano. You know how those of Movimiento Ciudadano are, a bit half opportunistic and they came out to declare that it was theirs. False, that was an initiative of Morena, of the parliamentary group,” he said.
