The April 2023 update for the Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One game consoles will be distributed this week. Microsoft relies on a new search function and personalizable energy settings for fast booting, installations and remote play.

When searching for installed games, apps, entertainment, etc., the Xbox dashboard search will have a new, “elegant look”. The results are displayed in a gallery-like form and can be browsed more easily with more visible filter categories via RB/LB buttons. As can be seen in the screenshot, it is also possible to filter by films and series (including YouTube videos) and settings.

Active hours for a better way of saving energy

Aside from the new Xbox search function, Microsoft is putting customizable power settings for active hours in the spotlight. After the April update, these can be defined in the settings (General -> Power options) once the “Low power mode” option is selected instead of “Shut down”. When a period of active hours is set, the Xbox Series X|S wakes up automatically to perform things like installing and updating games, starting remote play sessions, or booting up faster. Microsoft states that the active state consumes around 10 to 15 watts. With the option to shut down or at the end of the active hours, the power consumption is just under 0.5 watts. The new energy option has to be activated manually and the time period has to be defined. By default, the power saving mode is preset as “always on”.

When will the April 2023 update be released?

The April update for the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One will not have an exact deadline this month. Microsoft only promises to start the rollout this week. The update takes place automatically with the appropriate settings or must be triggered manually if necessary.
