XICO.- The town of xicochimalcoknown as Xico, has an importance that the local authorities have diminished and despite the fact that it has archaeological sites and museums, both public and private, it has not gained the boom it has desired and there is a plunder of vestiges.

Manuel Izaguirre, chronicler of Xico for 40 years, denounced that the director of Municipal Economic Development and TourismJavier Izaguirre Martínez, took off from the ground a monolith with the pre-Hispanic figure of Tláloc or Chalchihuitle, without the permission and supervision of the INAH, and it is presumed that he has it at his home.

The piece, he said, was located on Xonecuila street, a pre-Hispanic site in Xico Viejo, and the director of Tourism had neither the authorization nor the knowledge to remove it.

He added that the people of Xico documented with photographs the way in which the space was left without the pre-Hispanic piece.

There is a photo of how the hole was from where it was torn out; they had to inform the INAH, remove the piece, the INAH forbids lifting a piece like this and less should a person who works in a town hall do it; INAH has to come so that it can be placed in a safe place”, he said.

The chronicler explained that Xonecuila is a pre-Hispanic place, where not only is Tlaloc but there are other pieces; “One was taken to the Site Museum, but that part of Xonecuila must be a place where the vestiges are preserved.”
