Part 1 of season 4 of You features Joe Goldberg in his new London daily. After New York, Los Angeles and the fictitious suburb of Madre Linda, in northern California, the stalker of these ladies has decided to settle down in the United Kingdom. If he initially intended to invest Paris, the rejection of Marienne motivated him to change plans. Joe Goldberg is therefore back under a new identity, that of Jonathan Moore, a professor at the University. Impossible for him to miss Kate, who is his neighbor. Although she is currently the most hated character by fans, she could reveal herself in a new light in part 2. While waiting for her release on March 9, Netflix laughs at Joe’s big lie about his ride on the streets of London!

You season 4, part 1: this big flaw concerning Joe’s work-home journey

In this new burst of episodes, Joe Goldberg makes his mark in a city he does not know. In particular, he can be heard saying that his walk from his home to the University is relatively quick, “even if he doesn’t care about walking here”. A bit like in Emily in Paris, so Joe does not know public transport. However, if we look more closely at the distance between the two places, it takes about 9 hours of walking! It was the Netflix UK & Ireland Twitter account that shared a photo of the geographical map in order to make fun of this big lie of the show.

You (Netflix): why you should never trust geography in the series

Netflix didn’t intentionally lie about Joe’s journey through the streets of London. In reality, productions have no choice but to invent their own whereabouts. Most of the scenes are shot using exterior doors that lead nowhere but into a large warehouse. Scenes where characters travel from room to room may actually take place in completely different buildings. Production is often limited by the actual locations it is allowed to film in, as well as the budget and the ability to clear the space and fill it with cameras and extras. That’s why we don’t care!
