Already basic You wasn’t the most believable show in the universe. After playing the nice (but actually not so much) Dan Humphrey in gossip girlPenn Badgley completely changed register when he said yes to the character of Joe Goldberg in You, series adapted from a novel by Caroline Kepnes. A disturbed and disturbing psychopath, the character quickly found his audience, much to the dismay of the main actor, and the series was a hit after its arrival on Netflix at the end of 2018.

Since then, Joe has committed murders. In the finale of season 3, the hemoglobin level was at its maximum since he decided to get rid of Love (Victoria Pedretti), who herself wanted to kill him. In short, a completely normal couple situation… In short, our poor Joe found himself exiled to Paris, in search of Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) in the last scene of the third season. It is not in our capital that we find him in season 4 but in London. Joe is now Jonathan Moore and he has become a teacher (we’ll talk about it below). He will this time be the target of a stalker. The sprinkler watered what. And in these first 5 episodes, there are obviously moments that made us roll our eyes. The sequel is full of spoilers, you have been warned!

1. Joe magically becomes a college professor

Of all Joe’s professional retrainings, this one is still the best, or rather the worst. Bookseller-turned-supermarket-clerk-turned-librarian, Joe has this time succeeded by an unlikely miracle in becoming a teacher. And not in kindergarten, but in a prestigious London faculty. We want him to be passionate about books but still, that’s going a bit far there, isn’t it? No one checks CVs in England?

2. Joe plays the butcher (again)

From the end of episode 1, we already had the right to a murder around Joe, but for once it was not him who committed it (yes we know, it’s a shock). After the far too drunken party at Adam’s club, he finds Malcolm with a knife in his chest on his kitchen table. So, Joe does what any normal person would do in this situation (no): he goes to a sawmill to cut the body into small pieces. So, already, we don’t know where he found a sawmill in London. Then, he manages not to get caught by the guard, while he parks his car as close as possible. Not to mention the appearance of a penis like that, for fun. Nothing goes… Ok, this scene is not worth that of the meat grinder of season 2 but still, they could have found better side inventiveness.

3. Joe is faster than The Flash

Does Joe have superpowers? We really ask ourselves the question after season 4. Why? In episode 2, after the inauguration of Simon’s exhibition, Joe falls asleep on a bench and discovers the police arriving. He learns from Kate that Simon is dead and rushes inside to see the body. All this while going faster than the police, who are already on the scene when he wakes up. The only explanation: he is as fast as The Flash, the DC hero who has super speed as a power. Otherwise, it is clearly not possible.

4. Joe takes a wild fall, but all is well

The highlight of the show, though, was the end of Episode 4. As Joe slowly but surely gets closer to his stalker’s identity, he confronts Roald…and falls out of the window. He can be seen falling for a few seconds, suggesting he is falling from a height. But in the end, everything is fine and he manages to get up without any problem. In terms of credibility, we fell really very (very) low. A bit like Joe what…

5. Too many murders kill murder

When you think about it, Joe was almost wise in season 1 of You. Since then, bodies have been piling up around him. Already, in season 3, the death count was high but then there, we reached peaks in just three episodes with four deaths. Yes, one death per episode anyway. If with all these bodies piling up, Joe can’t get caught by the police, we really don’t understand anything anymore.

6. The final twist that EVERYONE saw coming

During this part 1 of season 4 of You, Joe was tortured by a mysterious crow, thus becoming the prey rather than the predator for once. Throughout the episodes, he has only one obsession: to find out who is really behind these bloody murders and who wants to blame him. And frankly, who was surprised by the identity of the killer, which is revealed in episode 5? Person. Not only because this character is the one we see the least (which is necessarily suspect when we have seen more than three series of the genre), but also he is embodied by one of the most famous names in the cast. It would have taken more to surprise us.

Bonus: this error that we do not forgive

Ok it’s not a completely stupid moment, but we can’t forgive this mistake that any Frenchman who has traveled to London will have spotted. In episode 1, Joe follows Marienne who is going to leave the British capital to return to Paris. Already he manages to observe him getting on the train, which is impossible since only passengers with a ticket can access the platform. But in addition to that, we can hear an announcement that evokes the continuation of the trip to Nice or Marseille. Except that the Eurostar does not continue to the cities of the South and only provides London / Paris or London / Lille routes for France (as well as Brussels, Rotterdam and Amsterdam in Europe). Magnifying glass…
