For a few years now, when watching content on a streaming platform, it’s not uncommon to have to strain your ears (and frown) to be able to correctly discern the dialogue emitted by the speakers of the TV, during a chase, an explosion… If it is sometimes appropriate (on Netflix in particular) to simply replace the 5.1 rendering with a stereo rendering to benefit from better sound on the speakers of the TV, on the side of Amazon, we have just deployed a new feature dedicated specifically to this problem: Dialogue Boost.
Prime Video boosts its dialogues (and that’s good!)
Indeed, the American giant is rolling out a new audio accessibility feature called Dialogue Boost. This is first available on certain films stamped “Amazon Originals” worldwide, and allows to increase the volume of the dialogues (in English) compared to the background music and the effects. In this way, Amazon promises to create a more comfortable and accessible viewing experience.”not found on any other global streaming service” according to the American giant.
Dialog Boost, how does it work? Concretely, the system comes to analyze the original sound of a film or a series and takes charge, via an artificial intelligence, before identifying the passages during which the dialogues could be difficult to hear, the fault with a background music and/or effects.

Then, the dialogues in question are isolated and the sound is amplified to make the dialogues clearer, more audible. Amazon thus promises a more targeted rendering, far more effective (and simpler) than general amplification on the central speaker of a home cinema installation, for example.
The Dialogue Boost function can be activated directly in the sub-menu dedicated to subtitles and dubbing, with the possibility of benefiting from a medium or strong boost. The feature is available on all Prime Video compatible devices.
For the American group, Dialogue Boost allows everyone to take advantage of a function accessible until now only to users equipped with high-end home cinemas, specialized audio equipment or even certain smart televisions.
Initially, Dialogue Boost is only available on select Originals content, such as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Big Sick, Beautiful Boy, and Being the Ricardos. The other good news is that Amazon promises that this feature will be gradually available on new content.
