The UniFrance meeting dedicated to cinema and audiovisual was back on January 10 in Paris, to celebrate its 25th edition. Returning to its traditional format after three years of suspension, this event looks back on the success of films and audiovisuals in 2022.

For those who don’t know it, UniFrance is the organization responsible for promoting and exporting French cinema around the world. For its 25th edition, UniFrance unveiled its list of “10 to watch 2023” on January 12.

A list selected by famous experts in the world of cinematography, which honors many directors, producers, actors and comedians. Among the latter is an actress of Algerian origin.

This selection of the 10 new emerging faces of French cinema was made by a panel of journalists and international experts. Including Rebecca Leffler from Screen International, Fabien Lemercier from Cineuropa, Elsa Keslassy from Variety. And Jordan Mintzer of The Hollywood Reporter.

UniFrance’s “to watch 2023” were selected thanks to their ambitions and their audacious artistic choices. But also, thanks to their openness to the world. These actors and directors have been talked about at international festivals and will be on screens around the world in 2023.

In addition to nine other personalities, the Algerian Lyna Khoudri was chosen to be one of the 10 new talents of French cinema.

Who is Lyna Khoudri?

Lyna Khoudri is an Algerian-born actress. She was discovered in 2017, thanks to her participation in “The Blessed”, by director Sofia Djama. Indeed, thanks to this role, she won the Orizzonti Prize, awarded to the best actress in Venice.

Then, she interprets the main role of “Papicha” directed by the Algerian Mounia Meddour. Thanks to which she made herself known in the world and won the César for female hope. She then continued her momentum in leading roles. And this, through his participation in “Hors norm” by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, “Les Sauvages” by Rebecca Zlotowski and “Nos frangins” by Rachid Bouchareb.

For 2023, Lyna Khoudri will star in “The Three Musketeers” by Milady d’Alexandre and “Horia” by Algerian director Mounia Meddour.
