Volkswagen launched the Polo Track with a very clear objective: to take the place vacated by the retirement of the Gol, taken out of line by the automaker after a long history of more than four decades of success in the country.

The “Novo Gol” inherited the mechanical assembly formed by the 1.0 MPI flex 3-cylinder engine and the 5-speed manual transmission, which also equipped versions of the Gol itself and the Volkswagen Up!, another car that is no longer in production in Brazil.

After spending a good period running with the newest hatch from the German manufacturer, the report of Canaltech listed 5 reasons to buy the Polo Track.

5. Does what it promises

If Volkswagen’s idea is really to replace the Gol in the market, the Polo Track was the brand’s right choice for that. The car is called the “foot of an ox”, and that means, according to popular jargon, that it can handle the bumps.

Despite being too “naked” (it doesn’t even have a radio, unless the customer pays extra for it), the Polo showed strength and resistance during the time it spent with the Canaltechshowing that the “spirit of the Goal” is still alive inside the line.

4. Economy

The Volkswagen Polo can also replace the Gol in the hearts of fleet owners and app drivers, as it has proven to be an extremely economical car, especially when fueled with gasoline.

In little more than 600 kilometers traveled during the tests with the report of Canaltech between city and road, the hatch showed average consumption of 15.1 km/l, similar to the official figures recorded in Inmetro — between 14 and 15.4 km/l.

3. Motor

The third among the 5 reasons to buy the Polo Track is linked to the previous one. The 1.0 MPI flex three-cylinder engine delivers 84hp of power to the driver and a torque of 10.3 kgf/m. The configuration is more than enough to make the hatch a “nervous” car, capable of performing well both in urban traffic and on highways.

It is worth mentioning that the same set is also present in the Polo MPI 2023, which costs a little more, but has differences in the external design, a much more complete accessory package and superior finish.

2. Suspension

Another good reason linked to mechanics to buy the Polo Track 2023 is the suspension adjustment of the hatch. Volkswagen worked its “magic” and managed to almost completely eliminate the annoying “squeaks” that even the Gol made when going over speed bumps.

The Polo Track 2023 runs smooth, no matter how irregular the track, perhaps due to the ground clearance 1 cm higher than that of the other versions (16.6 cm of free span) and also due to the use of high-profile tires — 185/65/R15 — adopted for this differentiated version of the “new Gol”. Ball in or, pardon the pun, Volkswagen’s “Goal”.

1. Instrument panel

Let’s close the list of 5 reasons to buy the Polo Track 2023 with a compliment to the equipment built into the car, despite the fact that the package is very basic in general.

The instrument panel, however, is worthy of praise even so. It offers clear readings and easy access to key information when equipped with an on-board computer (available for those who purchase the Bluetooth radio kit).

In addition, the frame also features a tachometer and gear change indicator, two very useful accessories for those who like to run with maximum efficiency and minimum fuel consumption.
