6-year-old boy fights for his life after being hit by a scooter in a Manhattan park

NEW YORK — Authorities are searching for the suspect who struck a 6-year-old boy with a scooter in a Manhattan park on Sunday afternoon, police said. The little boy is now fighting for his life.

The incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on a sidewalk inside Jefferson Park, in the 1st Avenue with 111 Street, in the East Harlem area. At that time, the suspect on his scooter was driving on the pedestrian sidewalk inside the park, an action that is prohibited.

It was there, when he ran over the victim, who was in an area near children’s games with his parents. The boy’s father ran to his son, who was left unconscious, while other witnesses called 9-1-1. The person who hit him would have stayed briefly in the place, and it was at that moment that the photograph was taken before he fled.

The boy was transported to Harlem Hospital with severe head trauma and is in critical condition.

Authorities shared the suspect’s photo and are asking people who have information to call authorities confidentially at 1-888-57-PISTA.
