2nd dolphin stranded in Mostaganem in a month: coastal protection services on alert

This weekend, residents discovered the decomposing corpse of a medium-sized dolphin on an unsupervised beach in the town of Stidiain Mostaganem. The animal seemed dead for several days given the advanced stage of decomposition in which the authorities found it.

After investigation, it turned out to be a female bottlenose dolphin, or “tursiops truncatus”, weighing 90 kg and measuring 200 cm in length. The causes of the grounding remain unknown to this day.

What worries the authorities the most is that this is not an isolated case. Indeed, on April 8, the elements of the National Coastal Commission were faced with exactly the same scenario. And female dolphin of the same species had also come to run aground on the beach of Sidi Adjalin the commune of Khadra. It would thus seem that the beaches of Mostaganem are a place conducive to the stranding of marine mammals, for a reason that still eludes the public authorities.
